Reception
The film recieved a 49% 'Rotten' rating on Rotten Tomatoes as of 29th August 2009. According to Anthony Quinn of the Independant, "It gets a little silly, at times, particularly in the special-effects department, but Stewart and Pattinson are a quite mesmerising pair". It received a Metacritic score of 56, indicating mixed or average reviews. USA Today's Claudia Puig wrote "Meyer is said to have been involved in the production of Twilight, but her novel was substantially more absorbing than the unintentionally funny and quickly forgettable film" and gave it two out of four stars. The Daily Mail describes Twilight as a "teen flick you can get your teeth into", scoring four out of five stars, and the Guardian gives the film four out of five stars.
Takings
The film was directed by Catherine Hardwicke (of Thirteen fame), and sold over $7 million in midnight showings alone on its opening night, November 21st 2008. As of April 2009, the film has made $191 million in the United States, and another $188 million internationally.
